J&K: Security challenge not in Jammu & Kashmir but across border in Pakistan: DGP Swain

Srinagar,  Director General Police R R Swain on Tuesday said that the root cause of

the security challenge is not in Jammu and Kashmir but across the border in Pakistan.

He said that the security situation is under control in Jammu and Kashmir and a few terrorists who are infiltrating from across the border from Pakistan to disrupt the peace is a challenge.

“A few terrorists who are infiltrating from Pakistan to disrupt the peace in Jammu and Kashmir is a challenge for us. These people in league with some people here try to vitiate the atmosphere,” DGP Swain told media persons on the sidelines of first grievance redressal meeting in south Kashmir.

He said the majority of the locals are not with them and keeping that in mind the security forces have controlled the situation.

“The terrorists who are coming from across the border either in Rajouri or Poonch or other parts.

We are very confident to control it and gradually the time will come and I am sure that time will

come when the local people catch them and hand them over to the police”, DGP Swain said.

In reply to a question DGP Swain said that the roots and the origin of terrorism is 90 percent from outside.

DGP said that the overall security situation is in control.

“The schools, business establishments are functioning normally and on the roads the situation is peaceful and we have controlled it in the best way,” he added.

A large number of people today came during grievance redressal meetings with their different problems and many were not related with the police rather domestic issues.

“We are trying to solve the problems of the people with the ambit of law,” DGP said about his outreach programme.
