Army foils first infiltration bid of 2024 in Kashmir; two militants killed

Srinagar, Two suspected militants were killed on Friday as the Army foiled the first infiltration attempt of this year along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Army said the infiltration bid was foiled by alert troops in the morning hours when terrorists were trying to infiltrate through Sabura Nala in Uri sector.

As the suspected movement of infiltrators was noticed by the Army and when challenged they opened fire triggering an encounter.

“ Two terrorists have been eliminated,” the Army said.

Two AK rifles, four hand grenades and other war-like stores were recovered during the operation.

The identity and affiliation of slain militants could not be established immediately.

This is the first infiltration bid of 2024 in Kashmir that was foiled by the Army. The security forces along the LoC are on a high alert ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

A senior Border Security Force officer had recently said that chances of infiltration from across the LoC increase during important events like the upcoming general elections.
