NC nominates Mian Altaf as Anantnag Rajouri parliamentary seat candidate

Srinagar,  National Conference on Monday announced its first candidate for one of three Lok Sabha seats in Kashmir thereby ending chances of a patch up with INDIA alliance partner Peoples Democratic Party.

Senior leader and veteran Gujjar politician Mian Altaf was nominated by the NC as the party candidate for the South Kashmir Pir Panjal parliamentary seat.

Omar Abdullah, in the presence of Mian Altaf, announced his candidature on behalf of party president Farooq Abdullah.

Expressing happiness Omar expressed confidence that he would garner substantial support from the people.

Party General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar, State Secretary Chowdhary Ramzan, Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani, and Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq were present during the announcement.

The announcement is likely to pit the NC and the PDP against each other in all three seats of Kashmir.

NC and PDP- the two major mainstream parties of Kashmir apart from being constituents of INDIA alliance were also part of the Peoples Alliance for the Gupkar Declaration (PAGD), an alliance of political parties in the Valley that was formed in 2020 to fight for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status.
