Srinagar: Wish of a 6-year-old Kashmiri boy was fulfilled when he unfurled the national flag and took salute at the march past in a function held at Regional Passport Office (RPO), Srinagar, on 71st Republic Day on Sunday.

Hannan Hassan Sheikh, a class 3rd student at Sumi Rose Montessori in Baghat Barzulla, had expressed wish to unfurl the national flag on the Republic Day to his father, an employee of RPO, Srinagar, Ghulam Hassan Sheikh.

Mr Sheikh approached Regional Passport Officer, Srinagar, BB Nagar and informed him about the wish of his son.

Mr Nagar said that after listening to his employee he immediately decided to fulfill the wish of the child. “I remembered Hanan as he has been in previous Republic Day and Independence Day functions at our office. After listening to the desire of Hanan to unfurl the national flag, I decided to let him do the honours,” Mr Nagar told UNI.

The RPO said the idea behind letting the 6-year-old unfurl the tri-colour and become the chief guest of the event was to ignite the feeling of nationalism and the desire to be successful in his life.

He said Hanan after unfurling the national flag distributed sweets among people, who attended the function.

“It is a dream coming true… I have always wanted to unfurl the national flag at a function and am very happy that I got this opportunity on Sunday,” Hanan told UNI.

Hanan said he will work very hard and become a civil servant to help the people of the country.
