US Republicans unveils $1 trillion stimulus for COVID recovery plan

Washington: Senate Republicans on Monday released their plan on another coronavirus stimulus package, a $1 trillion package that includes another round of direct checks to millions of Americans.
The plan includes $100bn for schools and issuing stimulus payments of up to $1,200 to most Americans.
Under the plan, the payment would replace a $600 boost to unemployment benefits during the pandemic. The proposal sets the stage for negotiations with democrats who have called it “totally inadequate”.
The package was pulled together after days of negotiations between Senate Republicans and President Donald Trump’s emissaries that didn’t completely settle differences within the GOP over the size and scope of additional federal spending in response to the pandemic, BBC reported.
The US has already spent more than $2.4tn on virus relief measures, sending billions of dollars in aid to businesses and individual households.
