Two die due to Covid-19 in J&K taking death toll to 15

Srinagar: Two persons an elderly man and woman died on Monday in a hospital here due to COVID-19, taking the death toll due to the infection in the Union Territory of J&K to 15.
With these, four people have died in less than 72 hours and six in eight days in J&K, which recorded the highest single-week jump of 389 cases from May 11-17.
Official sources said that a 65-year-old woman, who was tested positive on Monday morning, died in Chest Disease hospital. “The woman, a resident of Kulgam, who was admitted to SHMS hospital for Sub Dural Haemorrhage (SDH), tested positive this morning. Following the result, she was taken to CD hospital, where the woman suffered a major heart attack and died,” sources informed.
Earlier in the day, an elderly man, a resident of Kokernag in Anantnag, died due to the virus. “A COVID-19 patient, whose sample tested negative last two times, tested positive for the infection after he died in Chest Disease hospital, Srinagar, on Monday,” they said.
“He who was in his 70s, had tested negative twice at CD hospital, where he was admitted after he tested positive for the infection earlier this month. He was shifted to SHMS hospital for an emergency procedure — tracheostomy that involves creating an opening in the neck in order to place a tube into a person’s windpipe,” sources said.
“The patient was again tested and shifted to CD hospital. He was continuously on ventilator from last eight days, died in CD hospital on Monday. The patient had acute Pneumonia,” they added.
The elderly man’s death was the second causality in Anantnag and Kulgam registered first death on Monday. The worst-affected district in terms of mortality rate is Srinagar, where five people have lost their lives to the infection so far.
A 29-year-old woman, a resident of Habba Kadal in the city, died at Chest Disease hospital, Srinagar on Sunday. Five doctors, including four of them who treated 29-year-old woman, tested positive on Monday.
An elderly man, who died in a hospital in the summer capital, Srinagar on Saturday, tested positive. Another elderly man had died on Wednesday in Jammu.
Earlier this week, an elderly man died on Monday in Kashmir valley. The death of the elderly man had come just days after his son became the youngest victim of the infection in J&K.
J&K recorded first death due to COVID-19 on March 25, when a 65-year-old man from Hyderpora died due to the infection at Chest Disease Hospital. Then, on March 29, a 50-year-old man, a resident of Tangmarg, passed away at CD hospital.
Earlier last month, a 54-year-old Bandipora resident, who was tested positive for the infection, died at SMHS hospital. Later on April 8, a 61-year-old woman from Udhampur died at Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu.
A 70-year-old patient died on April 17 in Kashmir valley. An elderly man, a resident of Baramulla, on April 18 died in Kashmir valley. A pregnant woman, who died at a hospital in Anantnag on Saturday, tested positive on April 26. An 80-year-old woman died in a hospital in Srinagar on April 28 due to the infection.
