Train service resumes in Kashmir after remaining suspended on Sunday

Srinagar: Train service here was resumed on Monday after remaining suspended for a day owing to security reasons on 71st Republic Day (RD) celebrations.

Official sources said that all train runs were suspended on Sunday in the valley after an advisory was received from divisional administration and police.

They said railway department is acting on the advice of local administration since safety and security of the passengers and railway staff and property was necessary. However, a fresh advisory was received train service was resumed this morning in the valley.

Therefore, they said train will run on Srinagar-Badgam and Baramulla in north Kashmir track.
Similarly, they said trains will chug on Badgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir to Banihal in Jammu region.

After August 5, when centre scrapped Article 370 and 35A besides divided the state into two Union Territories (UTs), train service remained suspended for security reasons for about 100 days.

Train service has become very popular in Kashmir valley as it is economical, safe and fast against other mode of transport available to people.
