TN All party MPs delegation reaches Delhi, to meet Mr Shekhawat on Cauvery row

Chennai, Sep 18  A 11-member all party MPs delegation from Tamil Nadu

reached New Delhi on Monday to meet Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh

Shekhawat this evening on vexatious Cauvery row with neighbouring Karnataka,

which has been refusing to release waters for irrigation in Cauvery delta regions

of the state in violation of the orders issued by the regulatory bodies.

The all party delegation, which is seen as a show of unity by the political parties

in the State, was led by Minister for Water Resources Duraimurugan wheich has

left for the National Capital from here in the morning and landed there for the

all important meeting.

The decision to depute an all party delegation was taken by Chief Minister and

DMK President M.K.Stalin.

The delegation will submit a memorandum on the Cauvery issue, besides urging

him to insist upon the Cauvery Water Management Authority (CWMA) to order

release of 12,500 cusecs of water by Karnataka to Tamil Nadu.

The all-party MPs will also urge Mr Shekhawat to advise the Karnataka government

to release the water in a timely manner as per the orders of the Cauvery Water

Regulation Committee (CWRC) and CWMA.

The MPs who were part of the delegation included DMK Parliamentary Party Leader

T.R.Baalu, Ms.S.Jothimani (Congress), M.Thambidurai (AIADMK), K.Subbarayan (CPI),

P R Natarjan (CPI-M), Vaiko (MDMK), Thol Thirumavalavan (VCK), Dr.Anbumani

Ramadoss (PMK), G.K.Vasan (TMC), K.Nawaz Kani (IUML) and A.K.B.Chinnaraj

(KMDK).

The Tamil Nadu’s insistance for release of water to save the Samba and Kuruvai

crops in the Cauvery delta region, the regulatory bodies like CWMA and CWRC

directing release of water and Karnataka stoutly refusing to comply it, has once

again brought the issue back to the political limelight in both the States with both

the states remaining firm and unrelenting in their respective stands.
