Three drug peddlers held, contraband recovered in Kashmir

Srinagar: Three drug peddlers were arrested and huge cache of contraband was recovered by police in Kashmir valley, a police official said on Sunday.

According to the official, at a checkpoint established near railway road Budgam police intercepted two suspicious persons, identified as Bilal Ahmed Beigh and Mohammad Rafiq Hajam, both residents of Kadipora, Budgam.
”During checking, police recover 220gms of charas from their possession,” he said.

He further said a case was registered under relevant sections of law in Police Station Budgam and investigation in the matter has been initiated.
”They have been arrested and shifted to Police Station Budgam where they remain in custody,” he stated.

”Officers at a checkpoint established at Baba Dawood Khakhi Bridge intercepted a notorious drug peddler identified as Nazir Ahmad Mir resident of Koolipora Khanyarand recovered 2.5kilograms charas from his possession,” he further stated.

He has been arrested and shifted to Police Station Khanyar where he remains in custody. ”A Case under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Khanyar and further investigation has been taken up,” he revealed.

”Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace as reiterated in our community meetings,” he added.
