Students’ Association calls off hunger strike after four days

LEH: Students organisation of Leh district sitting on a hunger strike from 12th Dec 2019 regarding the demand of 6th Schedule for Ladakh under the banner of Students’ Organization of Unified Ladakh (SOUL) was called off for the time being here today.

Advisor SOUL, Stanzin Tsetan said “we are waiting for an assurance letter from MP Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal regarding the safeguards for land, Job, culture and identity. We will be waiting for two days and if they fail to provide us the letter then we will again continue our protest.”

On Dec 15, 2019 MP Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgail interacted with students who were on hunger strike and appealed to them to call off the strike. He assured the students that being an ex-officio member of the Hill Council, he will try his best to ensure some concrete decision regarding their demands.

Responding to a query, SOUL president Rigzin Dorjay sought support from religious organizations and civil society of Ladakh to raise the voice unanimously for better future of the region.
He said that the demand of 6th schedule for Ladakh is not just student’s concern but for the future of Ladakh and we have to stand unitedly and demand safeguarding of Ladakh UT.
