Sports must for overall personality development of youth: DDC Member

KALAKOTE: Senior National Conference leader and District Development Council (DDC) Kalakote Member Anita Thakur has emphasized that sports is must for the overall personality development of youth besides deviating them away from the menace of drugs.
The DDC Member stated this after inaugurating a Sai Premier League Cricket Tournament here today.
While addressing the gathering comprising participating players and spectators mostly from the nearby areas, Anita Thakur asserted that sports is must for the overall personality development of youth and the young generation must make sports a part of their daily routine. She said that there is dire need to promote sports activities not only for a healthy citizenry but more than that for diverting the youth from indulging in drug related activities. She said that adequate sports infrastructure needs to be made available across the length and breadth of the Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory by the administration in order to ensure that youth overwhelmingly participate in sports activities thus leaving less scope for their indulgence in drug abuse that has become a big menace for the society as of today.
The National Conference leader said that youth who participate in sports also benefit from the social aspect, developing friendships with teammates and feeling part of a group. Youth excelling in the field can also adopt sports as a lucrative career. Moreover children can learn positive mental health skills including accountability, leadership and dedication by regularly participating in sports. She appealed to the children and youth of the area to enthusiastically participate in sports activities and stay away from drugs so that the nation is ensured a healthy citizenry.
Asserting that it is need of the hour to encourage youth towards sports, Anita Thakur urged the J&K UT administration to provide adequate sports infrastructure in every nook and corner of the Union Territory.
Earlier, the DDC Member was introduced to the players of the participating teams in this Cricket Tournament. She commended the efforts of the organizers of the tournament for providing the opportunity to the youth of the area to remain involved in sports.
Naresh Dogra, Raghubir Chib, Deep Sharma and Bika Thakur were the Organizing Committee members while those who were present include Vijay Suri, Chairman Municipal Committee Kalakot, Agay Pal Vice Chairman MC Kalakot, Darbari Lal (Counsillor MC Kalakot), Bittu Suri, Mohit Pandoh and Vivek Sharma Youth President Kalakot NC.
