Soz demands repatriation of Kashmiri people from Gulf nations

Srinagar: Senior Congress leader Saifuddin Soz on Friday demanded immediate repatriation of residents of Kashmir valley stranded in Gulf countries, particularly in Muscat (Oman) and United Arab Emirates (UAE) following suspension of air traffic due to COVID-19 pandemic.
Prof Soz in a statement said that he took up the matter of stranded people from the Jammu and Kashmir with Union External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar and requested him for immediate repatriation of these people.
”In an earnest request to Dr Jaishanker, I strongly pleaded with him that he should immediately, repatriate a group of 170 persons, now stranded at Muscat (Oman)”, he further said.
Similarly another 900 residents of the Jammu and Kashmir were stranded in UAE, including Dubai and Sharjah who also need immediate repatriation.
”I further explained to Dr Jaishankar that many among the group have lost their jobs and the system wants them to fend for themselves when the times have become very hard due to the Coronavirus”, Prof Soz stated adding that he strongly pleaded with him that these people were facing great difficulties.
”I pleaded with him that this matter should be treated on high priority as these groups of people includes women, children, students, patients and unemployed labourers”, the senior Congress leader added.
