Six narcotic smugglers arrested with poppy straw, charas

Jammu: Police on Friday arrested six narcotic smugglers with contraband of poppy straw and cannabis in Udhampur, Jammu and Samba districts of Jammu region.
Police spokesman here said that two drug peddlers were arrested with 139.6 kg of poppy straw in Chenani area of Udhampur district from a truck.
The driver namely Surinder Singh of Rajpura, Patiala alongwith his associate namely Ram Singh was arrested and case under NDPS Act was registered.
The spokesman further said that another driver was arrested along with 36 kilograms of poppy straw in Jhajjar Kotli area of Jammu.
Police intercepted a truck for checking and recovered 36 kilograms of poppy straw (bhukki) which was concealed in under canvas sheet of the vehicle.
The accused driver identified as Baldev Singh of Taran Taran, Punjab and his helper Sardul Singh of Batala Punjab were arrested.
In another operation, Police arrested two drug smugglers with 500 grams of Charas and 4.5 kgs of Poppy Straw near Palah Morh of Samba district and Ghagwal area.
Arrested persons were identified as Roshan Kumar of Sargal, Samba and Sunil Singh of Gurah Jattan, Ghagwal.
A case was registered and investigation started.
