Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan had decided to play for Adelaide Strikers in a Big Bash League (BBL) 2018-19 match against Sydney Thunder on the New Year’s Eve in honour of his late father, who passed away on the previous day.

It was an emotional moment for Rashid but it was business as usual for the 20-year-old leg-spinner on the field as he picked up two wickets and played a key role in the Strikers’ 20-run win over the Thunder.

The Afghanistan star didn’t strike in his first two overs but got his first wicket of the day in the 15th over by removing Jason Sangha.
