Rajya Sabha adjourned till 2 pm amid protests

New Delhi: The Rajya Sabha was adjourned till 2 pm amid protests by Opposition Members against the suspension of 12 MPs in the Upper House.
The Opposition members were protesting soon after the House started. Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu, however, said the government will reconsider the decision, only if the suspended MPs expressed regret for their actions.
“Let us maintain decency and decorum in the House. This kind of pressure is not going to work on me. I discussed it with the Leader of the House… They said if the members who did this regret, then the government is willing to reconsider,” Naidu said.
“Unruly behaviour is not going to work. You are not going to help them,” he told the protesting MPs.
As Opposition MPs continued to raise slogans, and trooped near the Chairman’s podium, Naidu adjourned the House till 2 pm.
Opposition MPs have decided to escalate their protest, and are staging a march to Vijay Chowk, as part of the protest.
