Punjab reports five more Covid-19 deaths, 234 new cases

Chandigarh: Punjab recorded five more COVID-19 fatalities and 234 fresh cases on Thursday, taking the death toll to 183 and the infection tally to 7,140 in the state.
According to an official bulletin, the lethal virus claimed one life each in Ludhiana, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Kapurthala and Sangrur districts.
Of the fresh cases, 57 have been reported from Ludhiana district, 42 from Patiala, 34 from Jalandhar, 16 from Sangrur, 14 from Amritsar, ten from SAS Nagar, nine each from Ferozepur and Tarn Taran, eight from Fatehgarh Sahib, seven from Gurdaspur, five from Kapurthala, four from SBS Nagar, three each from Ropar, Moga, Muktsar and Hoshiarpur, two each from Faridkot, Pathankot and Mansa and one new case from Bathinda district.
The source of infection to nine new patients is out of state, the bulletin said.
Of 183 fatalities in the state so far, 50 deaths have been registered in Amritsar district, 30 in Ludhiana, 22 in Jalandhar, 17 in Sangrur, ten in Patiala, eight in Gurdaspur, seven in Hoshiarpur, six each in Kapurthala, Pathankot and SAS Nagar, five in Tarn Taran, four in Moga, three each in Ferozepur and Bathinda, two in Barnala and one each in Fatehgarh Sahib, Muktsar, SBS Nagar and Ropar districts.
According to the latest infection tally, Ludhiana leads with 1239 cases, followed by Jalandhar 1081, Amritsar 1002, Sangrur 605, Patiala 487, SAS Nagar 335, Gurdaspur 275, Pathankot 238, Tarn Taran 214, Hoshiarpur 190, SBS Nagar 179, Faridkot 147, Muktsar 142, Fatehgarh Sahib and Ferozepur 139 each, Moga 137, Kapurthala 128, Bathinda 123, Ropar 121, Fazilka 103, Barnala 69 and Mansa 55.
As many as 4,945 patients have been cured of the virus so far in the state and discharged from hospitals.
Amritsar district tops the tally with 800 cases, followed by Jalandhar 676, Ludhiana 614, Sangrur 470, SAS Nagar 253, Gurdaspur 221, Patiala 206, Pathankot 207, Tarn Taran 185, Hoshiarpur 171, Muktsar 132, SBS Nagar 130, Fatehgarh Sahib 118, Faridkot 108, Ropar 106, Moga 96, Fazilka 92, Kapurthala 88, Bathinda 87, Ferozepur 85, Barnala 48 and Mansa 45.
The bulletin further stated that there are 2012 active patients and among them 51 patients are on oxygen support and eleven others are on ventilators.
Out of 3,69,425 samples taken in the state so far, 7,140 have tested positive, the bulletin added.
