Poonch players urge Govt to speed up work for Hockey Astroturf

Hockey players raising slogans at Sports Stadium Poonch on Sunday

POONCH: Hockey players from district Poonch have urged the Government to speed up the work on already sanctioned Hockey Astroturf for the border district.
The players from different age groups today gathered, after their regular Sunday practice games at Sports Stadium Poonch, and raised their voice against some individuals and agencies for creating hurdles in the dream project of an Astroturf at Poonch.
Players were of the view that the Government administration and the Centre Government had sanctioned a lot of projects for the state sports but the agencies involved had not acted professionally to implement the schemes.
It has been reliably learnt that the Hockey Astroturf has been sanctioned for Boys Higher Secondary School Poonch, adjoining to the Sports Stadium and the tenders have been floated for the execution of work.
District Poonch has been a source of inspiration for the entire state, the reason being the place produced talented stuff in the lower age groups in both boys and girls sections.
A number of qualified individuals, who otherwise serve with departments other than J&K State Sports Council, have volunteered themselves and training young boys and girls on regular basis at both the venues of Sports Stadium and Boys Higher Secondary School ground.
