Police arrests drug peddler with over 100 bottles of codeine based syrup in Budgam

Srinagar: A drug peddler was on Sunday arrested with 103 bottles of Codeine phosphate in central Kashmir district of Budgam.
A police official said following specific information, a checkpoint was established at Wadwan in Budgam. “Police intercepted a vehicle at the checkpoint and during checking recovered 103 bottles of codeine phosphate,” he said.
He said the driver of the vehicle, identified as Syed Irfan-ul-Haq, was immediately taken into custody. The vehicle used for Commissioning of the crime has also been seized.
He said a case under relevant sections of NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Budgam and investigation taken up. “Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood,” he said, adding people found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law.
“Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” he added.
