Police arrests drug peddler, recovers psychotropic substance in Sopore

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday arrested a drug peddler and recovered psychotropic substances from him in the apple township of Sopore in the north Kashmir district of Baramulla.

A police official said that following specific information about transportation of drugs, a checkpoint was established near Hathishah Sopore. ”Police intercepted a person, identified as Umer Javaid Ziki, at the checkpoint and during checking recovered 100 capsules of Spasmoproxyvon from him”, he said.

He said a case under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Tarzoo. The accused has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody, he said, adding further investigation into the matter is in progress.

”Community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace as reiterated in our community meetings”, he added.
