Panic grips Budgam after 2 leopards sited in housing colony

Srinagar: Panic gripped central Kashmir district of Budgam on Tuesday when two leopards were sighted near a housing colony, where locals have confined themselves to their residences even as teams have been deputed to catch the wild cat.
Official sources said that two leopards were seen roaming in the Housing Colony Ompora and adjoining areas in Budgam since late last night, triggering panic among locals. “The locals immediately informed Wildlife department,” they said, adding a team has been deputed to catch the leopard.
The leopards were also caught on a CCTV camera, roaming in the backyard of a house in the housing colony. “A team of 15-members have been deputed in the area to catch the wild animals. They have setup a cage in Ompora while two more are being set up in Khanpur,” they said.
Meanwhile, people alleged that they have been requesting authorities to reinforce the boundary wall of the forest area so that the wild animals don’t come into residential areas.
