Nirbhaya case: Convict Akshay seeks clemency

New Delhi: One of the four Nirbhaya case convicts, Akshay Kumar Singh, sentenced to the gallows, on Tuesday, pleaded for leniency from the Supreme Court, .
“I am seeking a review of the May 5, 2017, judgement of the top court, which had rejected my appeal and sentenced me to the gallows,” Akshay’s counsel A P Singh said.
The trial court in Saket had sentenced Akshay to death, besides three other convicts, for the brutal murder after committing the gang-rape of the 23-year-old para medic in a moving bus.
It was then challenged and appealed through petitions by the convicts before the Supreme Court, which had also upheld the Delhi High Court order and held that all the four should be hanged.
On the night of December 16, 2012, the four convicts had gang-raped and murdered the para medic in a heinous, brutal crime that had sent shock waves through the nation.
