NC to challenge election of independent as chairperson of DDC in Budgam

Srinagar: Claiming that the Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) had nine out of 14 members yet an independent was made chairman of the District Development Council (DDC) in Budgam, former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said the undemocratic action would be challenged in the court of law.
Posting a photograph on his Twitter page with eight elected DDC members, Vice President of the National Conference (NC) Omar said election of an independent as chairman was done with the active involvement of the district administration which issued blatant threats about the powers to detain people for two years.
Early next week we will challenge this undemocratic action in the court of law, he said.
Taking to micro blogging site Twitter Omar said “ Talk about murdering democracy in J&K. I met 8 of our DDC members of Budgam district. There is at least 1 more alliance member of Javaid Mustafa Mir’s party so 9 out of a total strength of 14 & yet in an “election” an independent member was made the chairman”.
“All this was done with the active involvement of the district administration which issued blatant threats about the powers to detain people for 2 years. Early next week we will challenge this undemocratic action in the courts of law, he further tweeted.
An independent was recently elected chairman of DDC in central Kashmir district of Budgam. However, the PAGD members later protested against this demanding repoll
