Narcotic smugglers nabbed with Rs 27 lakhs, poppy straw in bordering Samba

Jammu: Police on Thursday arrested two narcotic smugglers with contraband of poppy straw and cash Rs 27 lakhs (Indian Currency) in bordering Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Speaking to reporters, SSP Samba Rajesh Sharma said that two narcotic smugglers have been arrested with 13 kgs of Poppy Straw and India Currency worth Rs 27 lakhs.
He said that the Police Party led by Incharge Police Post SIDCO under close supervision of SHO PS Samba, while conducting searches of stranded trucks on Mansar Morh, Samba intercepted a truck whereas driver and helper of the vehicle tried to evade from checking party.
The truck was found laden with a gunny bag and during checking, a total of 13 Kgs of Poppy Straw was recovered from tool box packed in a gunny bag.
During further search of the vehicle, two polythene bags containing bundles of Indian Currency worth Rs 27 lakhs was also recovered, he added.
The accused persons have been identified as Samiullah and his associate Zahid Maqbool, both residents of Lower Munda, Qazigund who have been arrested on the spot and the Indian Currency along with contraband item was seized, said the SSP.
The vehicle used in the commission of offence was also seized while a case under NDPS Act has been registered and investigation started, he added.
