Monsoon likely to be normal this year: IMD

New Delhi: The monsoon onset over the country this year is likely to be normal ( 96 per cent to 104 per cent), the Indian Meteorological Department said on Monday.
Issuing the long range forecast update for the year, the IMD said that the Southwest Monsoon has set in over Kerala coinciding with the normal time–June 1.
More than 70 per cent of the 14 rainfall monitoring stations for Monsoon onset over Kerala have reported rainfall during last 48 hours.
Monsoon Cloud with rain expected this year is 102 per cent, which will be 2 per cent more rainfall than what was assumed during the month of April, Secretary Ministry of Earth Sciences said.
As per the weather office, expected region-wise rainfall in the year would range from 107 per cent in the North-West, 103 per cent in Central India, 102 per cent in the Southern Peninsula and 96 per cent in North-East region.
