Milky waterfall Noori Chamb to woo tourists in J&K with improved infra

Jammu: Noori Chamb, a milky waterfall, is set to become a major tourist attraction of this Union Territory with improved infrastructure, as it has been selected under the Prime Minister Development Programme (PMDP) Phase I.
Falling from great heights, Noori Chamb, named after Nur Jahan, the wife of Emperor Jahangir, is all set to woo tourists as the government is coming up with facilities and better infrastructure at the spot in the bordering Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.
The place is linked with the Mughal history and in local terminology, means waterfall.
Located some 40 km from Poonch district along the Mughal Road, which is connecting Jammu region with Kashmir valley, the waterfall is coming up under the Prime Minister Development Programme (PMDP) Phase I.
”The spot will become an added attraction in the coming days, which will increase the footfall of visitors,” Chief Executive Officer of Poonch Development Authority (PDA) Tanveer Khan told UNI.
”The upcoming infrastructure will be a boon for trekkers and a full-fledged base camp is also in the making,” said the CEO, asserting that this place has a historic connect and people enjoy coming here, for it’s scenic beauty, green hills and tranquility.
Executive Engineer, Tourism, Poonch Development Authority, Suresh Kumar, who is supervising the infrastructure and development project here told UNI, ”It is a Centrally-sponsored scheme started in 2019 and will be completed by the end of this month (September).”
The project, named ‘Development of Noori Chamb Tourist Spot,’ is being constructed at the cost of Rs 395.54 lakh and the infrastructure is coming up near the picturesque waterfall on state land, said the Executive Engineer.
The improved Infrastructure, comprising cafeteria, view points, parking, illumination, landscaping and park, will become the highlights of the destination, he said.
“More than 90 per cent of the project is ready and will be outsourced for its complete functioning to generate revenue for the state exchequer,” he revealed.
Noori Chamb is located near the hill village of Bahramgala below Pir Panjal Pass (Peer Ki Gali) in the Poonch district. It is at a distance of 15 km from Bufliaz. The Mughal Road passes next to it.
The place is linked with the Mughal history and according to locals, it is named after Nur Jahan, the wife of Emperor Jahangir. “Chamb” in local terminology means waterfall. named after the Mughal queen Nur Jahan. (UNI)
