Major tragedy averted, JeM module busted in Srinagar: Police

Srinagar: Militant plan to cause disturbance ahead of Republic day was foiled by security forces after they busted a Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) module by arresting five militants in summer capital Srinagar, a senior police official said here on Thursday.
Huge arms and ammunition, including material to make IED were recovered from the militants, who are involved in various grenade attacks in the city.
The official said following specific information about presence of militants, three persons were arrested by police in the city. “During questioning, the accused confessed of being militants and revealed the names and locations of two more ultras,” he said.
He said both the militants were immediately taken into custody. “The militants have been identified as Ajaz Sheikh, Umar Sheikh, Ahmed, Sahil and Nazir Ahmed Mir,” he said.
The official said that the militants also confessed of carrying out grenade attacks, including one in downtown Srinagar. “The militants were planning to carry out a major attack in the city ahead of Republic day, ” he said, adding by their arrest these attempts have been foiled.
