Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected with 24,438 fresh Covid cases

Mumbai: With 24,438 fresh Covid infections , which has taken the total number of infections to 54,33,506, Mahrarashtra continues to be among the most affected states by Corona virus. The state has also registered 679 more deaths, raising the fatalities to 83,777 in the past 24 hours, according to the information given by the health authorities on Wednesday.
At the same time, a record number of 52,898 patients have recovered in Maharashtra, increasing the total number of recoveries to 49,27,480. The state’s recovery rate is now higher at 90.69 per cent and the fatality rate is 1.54 per cent.
The Marathwada region of Maharashtra registered 3,272 Covid-19 cases and 107 fatalities during the past 24 hours.
Out of the eight districts of the region, Latur district was the worst-affected as it recorded 402 new cases and 31deaths, followed by Aurangabad which had 568 cases and 18 deaths, Beed had 1183 new cases and 14 deaths, Parbhani recorded 283 cases and 12 deaths, Osmanabad had 400 cases and 11 deaths, Jalna registered 178 cases and ten deaths, Nanded 163 cases 8 deaths and Hingoli registered 95 cases and 3 deaths.
At present, there are 4,19,727 active cases across the state undergoing treatment at different COVID-19 centres and hospitals, added the health authorities.
In view of the rising number of cases, strict restrictions have been extended up to May 31.
