RAMBAN: Panic gripped Ward No.4 of Kunfer Panchayat in Chanderkot near Ghaada Mod today afternoon when two houses and an under- construction house besides two other structures partially damaged thereby compelling the two families comprising of 21 members to migrate due to the landslide caused by alleged negligent and unplanned cutting by the construction agencies of NHAI engaged in 4- laning of NH44.
According to one of the victims, Sidiq Ahmed on August 28 there was a torrential rain and next day morning the land above the under-construction NH44 had started sliding slowly which kept on increasing resulting into the cracks in his house comprising of 4 rooms and 2 verandahs besides another house of his brother, Ikhtiyar Ahmed. Another structure including a cowshed and kitchen besides a store were also damaged partially.
Both the families comprising of 21 members shifted to the nearby houses of their relatives today afternoon.
According to the local Sarpanch, Dilawar Ali the house of Zakir Ali behind the house of Sidiq Ahmed has also come in danger and the under construction house of Ayaz Ahmed too has developed cracks.
Sidiq alleged that the NHAI authorities have been sitting on his file since February 2018 for the acquisition of his property and the payment of due compensation but the concerned engineers had ruled out any imminent damage to my property. “Had it been decided earlier and I had shifted to some suitable place,we would not have to face this situation today.
First of all ASP, Ramban, Rajni Sharma alongwith local revenue authorities went to the spot and then in evening DC, Ramban, Mussarat Islam also visited there, expressed his sympathies with the victims and talked to the Project Director, NHAI, Purshottam Kumar. Besides issuing directions for immediate relief to the affected families he also assured of compensation for their damaged houses.
