Katra to host nine-day Navratra fest from Sep 29

Jammu: Jammu Divisional Commissioner Sanjeev Verma on Saturday said informed nine-day-long Navratra festival is going to begin from September 29 and all arrangements are in place.
“The holy Navratras are going to begin from September 29 and Katra is all set to host nine-day-long festival with fanfare,” Mr Verma here told reporters at a press meet.
He said that besides annual All India Devotional Song Competition, Hasya Vayangya, jhanki on the opening day and many other programmes will be organised as a part of nine day long festival.
He said that jhankis will be taken out every day showcasing the culture of Jammu region, adding, “Navratra festival not only boosts economy of the state but also gives push to the tourism sector,”
“Mata ki Chowki” and wrestling competition will also be highlights of the festival, he added.
In view of suspended mobile internet facility after August 5 in Jammu and Kashmir post Abrogation of Article 370, the Divisional Commissioner said, “internet facility is available in the hotels/lodges and some of the offices at Katra.”
Mr Verma added that arrangements are also being made for the pilgrims so that they can visit to prominent religious places of the Reason district which is known as one of the best destinations for pilgrimage tourism.
During Navratras, every year more than three lakh pilgrims visit to Katra to pay obeisance at the cave shrine, he said adding that as in 2017, 3 lakh and in 2018, 3.5 lakh pilgrims visited the cave shrine and it expected that this figure will be crossed this year.
