JAMMU, In order to enhance the overall monitoring of the education system and improving learning outcomes at school level, the Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir is likely to establish a central system-Vidya Samiksha Kendra (VSK) at State level for tracking student enrolment, progress in their learning levels, Out of School Children mainstreamed, textbook delivery, support required by teachers and schools, etc.

Pertinently, the Ministry of Education has advised the States/UTs to establish VSK. Under this a financial assistance of Rs 2 crore to Rs 5 crore based on the number of schools are given to the States/UTs.

VSK is aimed at leveraging data and technology to bring a big leap in learning outcomes. This will cover data of more than 15 lakh schools, 96 lakh teachers and 26 crore students across the country and analyse them meaningfully using big data analysis, artificial intelligence and machine learning in order to enhance the overall monitoring of the education system.

J&K UT has a total of 28,930 schools including 14856 primary, 9669 upper primary, 3144 secondary and 1261 higher secondary. The strength of government schools is 23167 and private unaided schools is 5649, government aided schools are one and others are 113.

“It has been noticed by the central ministry that various systems like UDISE, Student Database, NAS, NIPUN BARAT, Teacher Database, DIKSHA etc. are efficient systems working in silos. VSK will help to monitor the real-time status of various projects/ activities under the ambit of Samagra Shiksha.

Further it will keep track of enrolled students including learning outcomes, Dropouts, support required by teachers and schools, etc besides monitoring and track field level academic and non-academic activities at state level”, an official said.

“VSK will also identify and analyse improvement areas for decision making and implementation that needs urgent attention besides bringing improvement in the academic performance of students and to enhance the accountability of teachers in schools and effective utilisation of the available resources”, official added.

To set up a centralized help desk for grievance redressal mechanism for stakeholders of the School ecosystem, VSK will be of utmost importance; it is also being utilized to develop Centralized dashboard providing the real-time performance indicators of Schools across the UT. According to the School Education experts, VSK once set up will increase the accountability among all the field level staff /administrators and monitor the real-time status towards various projects components/activities under the ambit of School Education.
