Srinagar: An Army jawan was martyred and a militant was killed in an encounter in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday,
in an encounter that broke out during a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the south Kashmir district, according toofficial sources.
According to source, on a specific information about the presence of militants in village Hanjin Rajpora in Pulwama, the troops of Rashtriya Rifles (RR), CRPF and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir launched a Cordon and Search operation late on Thursday night.
After sealing all exit points, when the security forces were moving towards the targeted house, militants hiding there opened indiscriminate firing with automatic weapons.
Two soldiers of 44 RR were injured in the initial firing by militants, the sources said, adding that one of them later succumbed in the hospital.
One unidentified militant was also killed in the exchange of firing. However, his body could not be recovered due to continued firing.
Sources said the nearby residents were moved to safer places.
The operation was on when the reports last came in, they said, adding three to four militants are trapped in the area.
Additional security forces were rushed and deployed in the nearby areas to prevent any law and order problem.
Meanwhile, internet service of all cellular companies, including Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has been suspended as a precautionary measure.
As many as 61 militants, including top commanders, were killed by security forces in different encounters in the valley during the first six months of 2021.
