Tirupati: Introduction of Kisan Rail from Chittoor District to other states in the country would enable getting remunerative prices for the agricultural products produced by the farmers in Chittoor district and also improve their financial status Mr N. Reddeppa, Chittoor Lok Sabha Member and Standing Committee member of Railways, said.
Delivering the 111th Chittoor District Formation Day Lecture on ‘Chittoor District Sustainable Development in Agriculture: Future Plans and Vision’’, organised by the Academy of Grassroots Studies and Research of India (AGRASRI), an ICSSR recognized research organization, on the eve of the Chittoor District Centenary Awards conferment ceremony here on Thursday, Mr Reddeppa said Chittoor District is an agriculture based district and producing famous crops like mangoes, rice, groundnut, flowers, tomato and other commercial crops by the farmers.
He opined that the creation of Tomato Board or Commission would be the permanent solution to the most backward mandals in western part of Chittoor District, the largest producer of tomatoes in the country, and houses Asia’s biggest tomato market.
Explaining the significance of the agriculture canals and tanks for farm production, he suggested that the existing water tanks and canals would be repaired on a mission mode and preserve the rain water for future usage of the drinking and agriculture purposes.
