Inquiry into BSF jawan killing is on: BGB DG

New Delhi: The visiting Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Director General Major General Md Shafeenul Islam on Sunday said the inquiry into the firing incident on Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in October is on.
Describing the incident as ”most unfortunate”, Mr Islam said appropriate action will be taken once the inquiry gets completed.
Responding to a question in joint press conference here at BSF camp, Chhawla, he said the Indian fisherman who had crossed the water border has been arrested and handed over to the local police which is investigating the case.
Joining BGB DG, the BSF DG Vivek Johari said that Indian High Commissioner at Dhaka is in touch with the local authorities in this matter and hoped that that fisherman will back home soon.
Both DGs of Border guarding Forces India and Bangladesh have reiterated that steps are being taken to ensure that such incidents are not repeated in future.
The BSF DG said, ”There is a Standard Operative Procedure (SoP) to avoid such incidents and we have also reviewed this in our discussion with our counterpart which will soon be part of the new SoP.
