Railway Minister Piyush Goyal today said that the indigenously built engineless semi-high speed train, Train 18, has been named Vande Bharat Express. The train is set to run between Delhi and Varanasi and will soon be flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Speaking to reporters Mr Goyal said that It is completely made in India and we wanted it (Train 18) to have a special identity that is connected to India. So we decided the name “Vande Bharat Express”.
He said that Train 18 was designed and built by engineers at the Integrated Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai in a span of 18 months.
Mr Goyal also said that it is country’s first indigenous, semi-high speed train. It was given the safety certificate by the chief commissioner of railway safety on January 25.
