JAMMU

Seeking resolution of their long pending demands viz. implementation the whole package passed by State Cabinet in October 2014 for PoK Displaced Persons, provide facilities to all displaced at par with Valley Migrants, reservation of 8 seats for people displaced from PoK in J&K Legislative Assembly, permit PoK DPs to visit to their religious places in PoK, inclusion of 5, 300 PoK DPs families living outside the State in the ambit of package passed in October 2014 and return of cash deposits with interest to PoK DPs lying with J&K Bank Mirpur, the indefinite Chain Dharna of S. O. S. International – An Organization for PoK Displaced Persons today entered into day 5.

Brig. Rajinder Singh led the 5th day of Chain Dharna where in Sanjeev Kohli, Hans Raj, Kala Mehra, Neelam Gupta and Vimla Devi accompanied him. While speaking in Dharna, Brig. Singh said that PoK DPs are now ready to give any sacrifice to ensure justice to the crusade spearheaded by S. O. S. International Chairman Rajiv Chuni for such a long time and this time, PoK DPs will take this battle to logical conclusion. He lambasted Government over adopting step motherly approach towards the community that sacrifices their all to save the State.

“The sacrifices made by PoK DPs need to be valued as the sort of patriotism we displayed during the mass genocide sponsored by Pakistan ought to be not forgotten in any way but for the last 7 decades, we have been witnessing such a brutal and horrible attitude of various successive and current Governments of Centre and State with its own people that can’t be called humane in any manner. During this period of 70 years, the cultural, linguistic and ethnic identities of PoK DPs have been eroded by such a long passage of time and the need of the hour is to protect these identities by constituting Refugee Development Board but Government has never taken any initiative in order to protect the identities of people who got displaced from the native places. We have been demanding the same for quite a long time but every time, we have been back stabbed. Is this the way to treat those people who have gone through such tough times and had witnessed killing of their near and dear ones?”, he asked.
