Govt will not backtrack even an inch on CAA, says Shah: BJP launches toll-free number

New Delhi: The BJP on Friday launched a campaign with a toll-free number facilitating common people to give missed calls to register their support to the new Citizenship law.
In his speech at a mega Jodhpur rally in Congress-ruled Rajasthan, BJP chief and Union Home Minister Amit Shah made it clear that the Narendra Modi government will “not backtrack even an inch” and will go all out to implement the new Citizenship law most effectively.
He asked the gathering to give miss call to 8866288662 and extend support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his bold and unprecedented initiative to frame the new Citizenship law.
Many Congress leaders had supported such a move and even Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot earlier wrote letters to the Union government but when it came to implementing the same, they always develop cold feet fearing erosion of support in their ‘vote bank’, the Home Minister said.
“….Bhajpa is faisley par sey ek inch bhi peechhey nahi hategi,” said Mr Shah.
The CAA law brought in by the Modi government has come after years and it reflects the assurances given by none other than Mahatma Gandhi himself, he said.
“Was he also a communal…,” said the Home Minister.
An assurance to protect the persecuted religious minorities from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh were given by leaders such as Pt Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and Dr Rajendra Prasad.
Earlier in the day, in Delhi BJP general secretary Anil Jain launched a toll-free number facilitating common people to give missed calls to register their support to the CAA.
“This campaign is aimed to do away with misgiving about the CAA. People can give miss call to
toll free number 8866288662 and extend their support to the new law,” he said.
As part of the aggressive campaign by the saffron party, senior leaders of the parties including elected representatives and ministers will reach out to the people in ‘house to house’ campaign and explain them about the provisions of the new law.
BJP sources have said that the CAA when enforced will benefit more than 1.5 crore people across the country – the ‘persecuted’ religious minorities from Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh – who are already in India (prior to December 2014).
Sources also said over 70 lakh people will benefit in West Bengal.
