Give away old gadgets for underprivileged children- Greater Jammu campaign

Undoubtedly, the Coronavirus pandemic is the worst microbiological quandary that the world has seen in the 21st century. The repercussions of this global healthcare crisis have ginormously changed the way we exist in the modern world. While our definition of normalcy has been subjected to fluctuating changes in the past few months, one thing remains clear- the much anticipated digital revolution has begun and that too in full force. It seems like the world, all at once, shifted online. With the advent of businesses and academia shifting online, there are also many unfortunates who have been left behind in this technological race. Demographics that have not been able to access the technology due to low financial backing up or unawareness of digital developments are the worst suffers during this cyber metamorphosis.
This worldwide pandemic requires us to use our privilege in the best possible way. And therefore we sincerely urge all of you, reading this very article, to give away your old gadgets such as laptops, mobile phones, computers, etc to the multiple children who are waiting to get educated. Two-thirds of people in India live in poverty, and in our own city, nearly 10.3% of 5.04 lakh people are still doomed by the poverty curse. Due to lack of resources, these families customarily end up spending their bare minimum income on essentials such as food and rent. The question of purchasing gadgets for online classes does not even appear at the surface level when there is uncertainty about how they will arrange their meal. Income and job generation have largely been affected by the pandemic and therefore, the situation is grimmer than ever before. I got the epiphanic idea when my father’s driver asked me to teach his daughter as they did not have any spare phones or laptops. Even after helping her out and making sure that this child’s right to education was not snatched away by the circumstances, I felt a great impulse to help out the plethora of underprivileged, yet extraordinary children like her. And hence I decided to start this localized movement for the betterment of the future heroes of our city. Let’s use the power that comes with our privilege, judicially.
