Floral tributes paid to Subedar Krishan Singh on Martyrdom day

UDHAMPUR: Krishan Singh Jamwal Vr. C Awardees Memorial Welfare Committee- Urlian under the presidentship of Retd SSP, Mahadeep Singh Jamwal paid floral tributes to Subedar Krishan Singh of village Urlian Udhampur, who laid down his life while liberating an army picket captured by Pak army in Poonch sector in 1948 at an event at ‘Shahid Shardhanjli Sthal’ near Police Station Udhampur. During the bayonet scuffle that took place in the midnight of 15/16 July 1948, Subedar Krishan Singh attained martyrdom and was awarded ‘Vir Chakra’ posthumously in 1948 by the Govt of India.
While speaking on the occasion, Jamwal apprized that ‘the place where Krishan Singh attained martyrdom has been christened on his name as ‘Krishna Ghati’ in Poonch sector. He was the first awardee of Vir Chakra from Udhampur followed by Maj Narain Singh in 1971. The sacrifice of Captain Tushar from Udhampur also found mention in Jamwal’s words. A number of prominent citizens of Udhampur, many councillors of MC Udhampur including Vikas Sharma, Rakesh Khajuria, Bikram Singh Slathia, Anil Arora, Samnik Bhasin, Dr. KC Sharma, Brij Mohan, Rtd principal SK Magotra, Ex-Deputy Director Education SK Gandotra, Sunil Gupta of Sangeet Palace, Kuldeep Singh Jamwal, KL Sharma, BL Khajuria, Col Balwant Singh, Captain Balbir Singh, Subedar Krishan Chand, Kulbir Katoch, Rajinder Katoch and galaxy of retired army personnel and police personnel, family members of martyrs also laid wreaths on the occasion.
On the occasion Jamwal appealed to the youngsters to take the young buddies who have laid their life for the service of country as their role models and to desist from drug menace and contribute for the country.
