DLSA Leh organizes awareness programme

LEH: Under the chairmanship of Principal District and Session Judge Leh, R.S. Jasrotia who is also the Chairman, District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) Leh a day long awareness programme was conducted by DLSA in collaboration with district administration Leh at DC Office conference hall today.
The Secretary, DLSA, Miss Spalzes Wangmo, President, MC, Leh Dr. Ishey Namgyal, ADC, Leh Dr. Zahida Bano, district officers and other stake holders were also present on the occasion.
The main purpose of the programme was to highlight the aims and objectives of DLSA, besides spreading awareness about some of the alarming environmental issues faced by people in the district. Principal District and Session Judge, Jasrotia stressed upon the need to make a collective effort in addressing the problems by way of water harvesting, waste management and banning of plastic items. He urged to carve out a realistic and doable future plan to make Leh district a clean place. He spoke on the harmful effect of plastic and stressed on conducting mass level awareness starting from schools.
Chairman DLSA also explained in detail about the legal fines imposed on vendors, institutes, commercial buildings, hotels and individuals for unlawful disposal of waste, open burning of garbage, over gathering, damaging public property and places like parks. He directed the President MC, Leh to notify people upto Panchayat level and spread awareness about prevalent rules and legal actions among people at grass-root level. He also urged the Heads of the Departments to avoid using plastic products in their offices and aware others also on waste management.
In her address, Secretary DLSA, Spalzes Wangmo highlighted the primary objectives of DLSA. She said that it was their main concern to disseminate awareness about the provisions of free legal services from DLSA to the poor and helpless people. She added that effort is to ensure legal justice at their door steps. She further elaborated other DLSA schemes and mechanism and answered queries raised by the participants on legal point of view.
A threadbare discussion on all these issues was held among the participants and putting forth constructive views and opinions. A question and answer session was also held and the Chairman DLSA gave elaborated answers to all the queries raised by the participants.
Presentations on issues like water sources, consumption and possibilities of innovative ways of water conservation like ice stupa, ponds and success story of Project Tsangda were presented during the programme.
