World Heritage Week
Jammu: The World Heritage Week 2019 is being observed by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) from November 19 to 25 across the Country.
The objective of the celebration is to make people more aware of and also for the preservation of cultural heritage and monuments.
As part of this, Tourism Department in collaboration with Mubarak Mandi Jammu Heritage Society and Directorate of Archives, Archeology and Museum shall organize Quiz and Painting Competitions at Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex in which students from the schools and colleges shall enthusiastically take part in the celebration of World Heritage Week.
Around 25 students from Food Craft Institute, Nagrota and 25 students of Vidyapeeth Higher Secondary School took part in the Heritage Walk during celebrations.
Slogan competition related to the encouragement of the preservation of historical heritages and monuments of the country are also being organized on the occasion. Various competitions for the students to increase their knowledge on the cultural heritage of India are planned to be organized throughout the week in collaboration with the Archeological Survey of India in the Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex to highlight the importance of historical monuments and their preservation.
Deepika K Sharma, Executive Director Mubarak Mandi Jammu Heritage Society, who is also Directorate of Tourism Department highlighted the importance to raise a sense of appreciation and respect for the ancient heritage sites.
She further emphasized the need to spread awareness about the protection and preservation of the heritage sites.
She stressed that heritages and monuments of Jammu and Kashmir are the ancient property which we must preserve and promote as tourist destination as well.
