Dharna continues as Lawyers’ agitation enters 96th day

JAMMU,: The Agitation of Lawyers practicing in Jammu wing of J&K High Court and the Subordinate Courts completed 95 days today. The Lawyers held a Dharna in the Janipura Courts Complex.
The lawyers Action Committee carrying ahead the agitation since 15th October 2020 in protest against continued closure of their entry into High Court completely and partially in Subordinate Courts besides no entry of public since March end this year and on few other issues.
With the major demand for opening for physical hearings in High Court and Subordinate Courts and removing the restrictions on the entry of lawyers and public in the courts, their other demands include accepting hard copies, opening of Bar Rooms of lawyers and other facilities of lawyers, providing stamp papers and tickets in court area through stamp vendors, etc.
The protesting lawyers said, “Since human activity in other spheres like business, politics and elections, marriage gatherings, conducting proceedings of parliament and assemblies, cinema halls, liquor bars, bus and air transport etc has been resumed, there is no genuine reason to keep the entry closed in courts particularly for lawyers and generally for justice seeking public.”
It is pertinent to mention here that Prof. Bhim Singh, Sr. Advocate & Executive Chairman of State Legal Aid Committee, J&K has urged the Chief Justice of J&K High Court to invite the representatives of Lawyers’ Action Committee, Jammu to settle the genuine and legitimate issues raised by them.
