CSIR and Sun Pharma to augment COVID-19 testing in Ladakh

Director, CSIR Jammu, Dr. D S Reddy, apprising Commissioner/Secretary Health, Agriculture and Horticulture, UT-Ladakh Rigzin Samphel about augmentation of COVID 19 testing in Ladakh on Friday.

Leh: Director, CSIR-Indian Institute of Medicine, Jammu, Dr. D.S.Reddy, called upon Commissioner/Secretary Health, Agriculture and Horticulture, UT-Ladakh Rigzin Samphel.
Com/Secy Samphel was apprised by Dr. D.S Reddy that the Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine has hired and trained manpower to work in the COVID testing facilities at Leh and Kargil. He further informed that four RT-PCR machines, two bio-safety cabinets are being procured and would be delivered shortly to augment the COVID testing. The newly developed CSIR technology ‘FELUDA’ will also be explored for COVID testing in future, he added.
Sun Pharma is supporting this activity partially as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
Pertinently, the team of Scientists, headed by Dr. D. Srinivasa Reddy, Director Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (IIIM) Jammu, is on a three-day visit to Ladakh to discuss with the UT Govt. about the S&T initiatives CSIR envisages to launch here where CSIR-IIIM, Jammu would be a nodal institute.
Commissioner Secretary Rigzin Samphel appreciated the efforts of CSIR and Sun Pharma and instructed Director Health Services to nominate one officer from the Health Department as nodal officer to coordinate with the authorities of CSIR-IIIM for providing logistic support.
Others who attended this meeting were Director Health Services, Ladakh, Dr. Phuntsog Angchuk, Chief Medical Officer, Leh, Dr. Motup Dorjay, Medical Superintendent, SNM Hospital Leh Dr. Nurzin Angmo and other officers. Head Business Development & Project Monitoring & Evaluation Er. Abdul Rahim, Head Engineering Services Division Dr. Zabeer Ahmed and Sr. Scientist, Agro-technology &Genetic Resources Division Dr. Shahid Rasool of CSIR-IIIM team were also present in the meeting.
