CBI to probe alleged Yamuna Expressway land scam

New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation has taken over the probe into the alleged Yamuna Expressway land scam.

The probe agency has filed an FIR in this regard on Tuesday against 22 accused including former chief of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) for alleged land scam on charges of criminal conspiracy, forgery of valuable security, abuse of official position and others.
The agency has taken over the probe recommended by the UP government for investigation into the alleged irregularities in the purchases of land for the expressway going to the tune of more than a hundred crore.
As per UP government, the land purchased in some villages by the YEIDA allegedly incurred a loss of around Rs 126 crores to the state exchequer.
The 165 km long project was started during the tenure of former UP CM and BSP supremo Mayawati in 2009, which was inaugurated in 2012 by the then UP CM Akhilesh Yadav
