Cancellation, postponement of exams evoke mixed response from parents

JAMMU: The Central Board of Secondary Education’s (CBSE) and Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education’s (JKBOSE) decision to cancel the Class X exams, and postpone the Class XII exams, has generated a mixed response from parents.
Some parents welcomed the decision saying it would give them more time to study at home and keep them safe from the COVID-19 pandemic, while others looked worried that it would affect their future because of the delay in the academic year.
While talking to Greater Jammu Correspondent, Varuna Anand, mother of a student of 10th Class said that “Conducting the examinations would have unnecessarily put many students at risk.
“No matter what precautions we take, there are always the chances of becoming the carrier of the virus. So, I welcomed the CBSE decision of postponing the exam,” said she said.
She added that “Students have already appeared in three pre-board examinations conducted by the schools and it will not be a problem for the authorities to assess the students”.
Vikram Handa, father of a 12th Class student from Jodhamal Public school said, “By not conducting the examinations, the concerned authorities have made a mockery of the whole education system. Expressing his anger he said if political rallies and religious congregations are allowed, then why not the exams could be conducted”.
“Cinema halls, theaters and restaurants are allowed to work, but the students are not allowed to appear in the exams for which they studied day and night. It is injustice to us,” said Handa.
KS Singh, Indu Bala, Narender Kumar and Surinder Singh while talking to Greater Jammu said that the COVID 19 Pandemic has laid a worst impact on education of their wards which has made their kids reluctant which has created a challenge for the parents to give a positive direction to their children.
“Neither they carry on their studies online properly nor they are able to go outside for any other activity and lack of interaction with their class mates has put a lot of pressure and stress on their minds”, they added.
