After keeping police department on its toes for two months when a record number of 84 criminal cases were lodged against him and his family, Samajwadi Party MP Mohammad Azam Khan made an appearance on Monday when he joined his Rajya Sabha member wife Tazeen Fatima in filing nomination papers for the Rampur Assembly bypolls.
Citing health, Khan had earlier sought 15 days time to appear before the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing all the cases lodged against him.
The SIT had issued a notice to him to appear before the police on Monday in a land grabbing case but he sent a letter saying he is unwell and sought 15 days time to appear.
But Khan’s Monday appearance raised eye-brows and SIT’s reaction is awaited.
Khan was missing in Rampur for the past two months and even when SP president Akhilesh Yadav was there, Azam Khan did not meet him.
But during today’s filing of nomination by Tazeen Fatima and presence of Azam Khan, has re energised the party workers.
Azam Khan is a nine-time MLA from the Rampur Assembly seat, which was vacated by him after being elected to Lok Sabha.
