Ashoora observed with religious zeal and fervour, impressive procession in Jammu, biggest in Srinagar

JAMMU: Ashoora, the 10th day of holy month Muharram, was Tuesday observed with religious zeal and fervour across Jammu and Kashmir while the Muharram processions were taken out at multiple places to pay tributes to the Karbala martyrs.
Notably, the 10th Muharram is observed as Youm-e-Ashoora when over 1,400 years ago, Imam Hussain (AS), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was martyred along with his family members and companions in Karbala, Iraq.

An impressive procession of 10th Moharram (Ashura) was taken out in the old Jammu city from Ziyarat Peer Mitha under the banner of Anjuman-e-Imamia, Jammu. Thousands of mourners from different regions of J&K UT participated in the religious procession to pay homage to the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (a.s.) grandson of Prophet Hazrat Mohammad (PBUH). A brief Majlis was delivered by by Moulana Syed Ghulam Hussain Rizvi from Iran Cultural House. In his address he stressed upon the teachings of Imam Hussain (a.s.) and highlighted why it is important to follow the path of Karbala. After passing through the traditional route the procession culminated at Karbala complex Wazarat Road where Majlis Sham-e-Ghariban was also delivered by Moulana Syed Ghulam Hussain Rizvi.

Meanwhile, a procession was also taken out from New Plots by Anjuman-e-Haidery New Plot under the patronage of Shakeel Karbalai and it merged with the main procession at Imam Bargah Sofi Shah Peer Mitha.

It is pertinent to mention here that on this day Imam Hussain (a.s.) and his 72 companions laid down their lives and saved humanity and the values of Islam, battling against the tyranny of Yazid, the ruler and Caliph of Muslim Ummah at that time.

Addressing media President of Anjumam-e-Imamia, Jammu, Syed Amanat Shah said that it is our duty to spread the message of Imam Hussain (a.s.) that emphasizes “we should never bow down in front of the oppressor and must always stand firm against the tyrant.” He added that Ashoora conveys a message to the entire humanity that we should stand firm against the oppressor and never forego our responsibilities even though we need to sacrifice our self for the cause.

Prof. Sujat Khan, Secretary Anjumam-e-Imamia, Jammu while speaking to media asserted that Karbala is not a battle between individuals but it’s a battle of ideologies. He further added that Rebar-e-Moazam Syed Ali Khamaenei quoted that ”If we understand this event (Ashura) to be a great event in History, and we value it, then its remembrance will definitely help us to progress, to move forward, to follow the path shown by Imam Hussain (a.s.)”.

Sohail Kazmi Senior Journalist and member of Advisory Committee Anjuman-e-imamia Jammu said we are highly thankful to the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and the administration for their role and support during all the days of Moharram.

Vice President Anjuman-e-Imamia, Syed Afaq Hussain Kazmi said that the battle of Karbala is the only battle in the history in which the blood achieved success over the sword. He further added that we should propagate the teachings of Imam Hussain (a.s.) if we want to succeed in our future endeavors.

While delivering the vote of thanks Syed Ayaz Naqvi, Joint Secretary Anjuman said we are thankful to all organizations for extending full cooperation and support during the procession by installing different stalls with refreshment for the mourners. We also extend thanks to Anjuman-e-Haidery, Anjumn-e-Hussaini, Kargil Colony Bathindi, All Ladakh Muslim Students Association Jammu (ALMSAJ), Volunteers of Shaheed Muttahiri Library New Plots, administration of MESWL and people from Poonch, Rajouri, Gursai, Surankote, Mandi, Chanderkot, and Kashmir for showing exemplary discipline during the procession.

Anjuman-e-Imamia conveyed special thanks to Kavinder Gupta Ex Deputy CM, Yudhvir Sethi Sr. BJP Leader, Dr. Tahir Hussain Spokesperson BJP, Gulchain Singh Charak President Dogra Sadar Sabha, Devinder Rana Sr. leader BJP and all the religious and social organizations for their presence and support during the Moharram procession making it a successful event. It also conveyed special thanks to Media (print and electronic) for giving extensive coverage and unconditional support.

Meanwhile, in Kashmir the biggest procession was carried out from Bota Kadal to Zadibal in which the Shia mourners in thousands participated.
The Muharram processions were also taken out at Budgam, Pattan and Delina areas of Baramulla district, Wularhama Pahalgam, Sofi Pora, Halkha, Chaturgund in South Kashmir.
During the day, the people at multiple places had erected stalls where they were seen providing food stuff, water bottles and medicines to the people.
Besides, the Sunni Muslims also organized Ijtimas on the occasion in local Masjids here, during which the religious clerics threw light on the teachings of Imam Husain (AS) and also narrated the events of Karbala.
However, except near Abi Guzar locality, no restrictions were imposed anywhere in Srinagar today.
Paying tribute to Karbala martyrs, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Vijay Kumar, said that all the security related arrangements were already put in place for Ashoora. “I appeal to the people to follow the path of Karbala martyrs,” he said.
About providing water and other stuff during Ashoora, Kumar said that it is the duty of police and as such has been taking part in such activities and will continue to do so.
“ADGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar along with SSP Srinagar & other officers participated in the 10th #Muharram procession marking the #martyrdom anniversary of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) & also held the Shabih e Zuljana of Imam Hussain (AS) today in Zadibal Srinagar,” Kashmir Zone Police tweeted.
