The Assistant Returning Officer Doru issued a statement against Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress President Ghulam Ahmad Mir for allegedly violating Model Code of Conduct as Mir was seen entering polling station at Verinag to cast his vote with a queue of voters wearing caps with congress symbol, which is clearly violation of MCC.
The statement reads, “Today on 23-04-2019 it has come to my notice that a video has gone viral showing you have entered polling station No.62 …with a queue of voters wearing caps with congress symbol which is the violation of Model Code of Conduct as per the guidelines of Election Commission of India and the election commission of India has taken it very seriously. So before initiating my action against you, you are hereby called upon to explain your position in this matter.”
Earlier, Congress President Ghulam Ahmad Mir on 23rd April cast his vote in the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections at a booth in Omoh Verinag area in Dooru constituency of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, after which a video was viral on social media showing that Mir entered the polling station with a queue of voters wearing caps with congress symbol which is clearly voilation to MCC.
While talking to Kashmir News Bureau A political analyst said ” It is very unfortunate to see our leaders violating the election commission laws.It is the clear violation of MCC from Ghulam Ahmad Mir, Election Commission should take action against the accused and officials who permitted such incidents which violate the model code of conduct.
