Army chief visits Siachin glacier, reviews operational preparedness

Leh: Army Chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane on Thursday reviewed security situation and overall operational preparedness of troops to tackle any eventuality at Siachin glacier, the highest battle field in the world.
This is his maiden visit to Siachin after taking over as Chief of the Army Staff General on December 31. Gen Naravane took charge as the Army chief, succeeding General Bipin Rawat.
General Naravane said it has always been his intention to visit Siachen. “I am glad that this is my first visit to Siachin as the Army chief,” he added.
Meanwhile, an Army official told UNI that the Army chief during his visit was briefed about the situation along the LoC and border with Pakistan and China.
He said General Naravane visited forward posts of Siachin and interacted with troops deployed there. “The Army Chief also witnessing air dropping of essential commodities to troops guarding tough terrain on the Siachin glacier,” he added.
The army chief later laid wreath and paid homage to the martyrs at Siachen War Memorial at the base camp. “General Naravane also presented badges to officers for their excellent performance at Siachin,” he added.
