Amit Shah’s visit: Security stepped up ahead of Oct 24 Jammu rally

JAMMU: The security has been stepped up in the winter capital of the Union Territory ahead of a high profile visit of Union Home Minister Amit Shah here to address a public rally and meet several delegations on October 24.

Shah will be on a three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir to chair security review meetings, address panchayat members as well as political workers and take review on targeted killings of civilians including five non-locals in the Valley.
Shah will be visiting Jammu and Kashmir for the first time after the revocation of Article 370 and 35-A on August 5, 2019.
“Shah will arrive on October 23 at Srinagar and next day he will be visiting Jammu,” said an official.
They said at Jammu, besides addressing a public rally, he will also be meeting J&K BJP leaders and some delegations.
“Security arrangements have been tightened in the Jammu city as security forces have enhanced checking points at many locations,” a senior police official said.
He said the main venue for the rally at Bhagwati Nagar has been sealed while additional check points are also being raised as a security exercise.
The visit of the Union Minister is a part of the Centre’s continuing outreach campaign and he is also expected to review the implementation of development schemes.
“ Shah on October 24 will again fly back to Srinagar and on October 25 after meeting several delegations, chairing a security review meeting, will return to the national capital,” said an official.
