Akif’s hat-trick helps J&K Bank retain Football trophy

JAMMU: Beating the same opponent in J&K Power Development Corporation (JKPDC) which they trounced last year in the final, the professional side of J&K Bank retained the J&K Football Championship trophy at GGM Science College ground here today.
However, the J&K Bank made it a big 6-1 win in the 27th edition of the championship instead of a close victory via tie-breaker last year. It was Akif, who made all the difference by netting the ball for three goals in the very first half of the game. Akif was adjudged player of the tournament for his performance in the competition and hat-trick in the final.
The J&K Bank team showed extraordinary soccer skills and dominated the game throughout. Akif scored a brilliant hat-trick, netting the ball for the first blood in the third minute, followed by the second and third goal in the 14th and 20th minute of the match respectively. Then Waris added another goal in 38th minute and Prem scored in the 41st minute to guide the team to unbeatable 5-0 lead in the first half of the play.
In the second half, Bank further improved the score with Prem scoring his second and team’s sixth goal in the 63rd minute. Salah Wani scored the lone goal for JKPDC in 81st minute of the match.
Advisor to Lieutenant Governor J&K, Farooq Khan was the chief guest in the final, who interacted with the teams and officials and left the venue because of certain engagements.
He was accompanied by Secretary Youth Services and Sports J&K, Sarmad Hafeez; Director General Youth Services and Sports, Dr Saleem-ur-Rehman; Secretary J&K Sports Council, Dr Naseem Javaid Choudhary.
Later, guest of honour, senior BJP leader, Yudhvir Sethi along with other dignitaries presented winners and runners up trophies as also other individual prizes.
The final was officiated by the technical panel including Muzzafar, Hilal, Dheeraj and Ricky.
